For nearly 30 years, Dr. Michael Gorman has been providing outpatient physical therapy. His goal always was to provide the highest level of care possible to be able to help as many people as possible achieve the level of physical function they desire.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Gorman sought to advance his clinical career by completing 5 years of post-graduate orthopedic manual physical therapy residency with the Ola Grimsby Institute. As his clinical career advanced, very soon his entrepreneurial spirit drove him to go into private practice in St. Louis, MO.
In 2002, he began his self-employment career by opening St. Louis Physical Therapy. What once started out as a goal of owning one small private practice clinic grew into a multi-clinic practice in a very populated medical community in St. Louis, MO. As his business, leadership, and marketing skills developed so did the path of St. Louis Physical Therapy. Dr. Gorman’s company grew into 7 established locations with varied referral sources. The company culture emphasized “treating our patients like kings and queens.”
As the growth of St. Louis Physical Therapy continued, one recurring theme developed which changed the satisfaction level of Dr. Gorman in the traditional outpatient brick-and-mortar model. The need to multitask with treating more than one patient at a time, hour after hour, in order to meet the clinic’s budget and take care of all the clinic’s expenses began to take the enjoyment out of private practice ownership. This led to Dr. Gorman selling his practice to a national rehab provider in 2017.
However, something was still missing. The multitasking in the clinic didn’t change. Dr. Gorman still felt there was so much treatment he wasn’t able to provide within a traditional outpatient visit. He knew a change in his career was needed. In March 2020, he left the national rehab provider to go back into self-employment. Three months later iMove PT was born. After six months of practice in the mobile physical therapy model, he knew he wanted to help as many therapists as he could enjoy this model. Out of this desire, the iMove PT Franchise opportunity was born.
